Website Security & Modernization
Web Server Security, Configuration & Hardening Services
Web server security services examine the environment that runs your application. We help clarify the boundary between hosting-provider responsibilities and your own configuration, access and maintenance tasks.
Why Web Server Security Matters
A secure application still depends on its operating system, runtime and deployment accounts. Exposed administration interfaces or excessive permissions can undermine application protections. We identify what you control directly and what requires the hosting provider, particularly on shared or managed plans where server-level changes are restricted.
PHP Server Configuration Security
We identify the PHP handlers, pools, extensions and configuration used for real web requests. Separate sites and containers may use different versions. Runtime patching is verified independently of hardening options. Configuration changes are reviewed against uploads, session handling and application requirements; no single setting is treated as a universal fix for the October CVEs.
Hosting and Operating System Updates
Package provenance, support contracts and security advisories determine whether a vendor package is patched. We examine update ownership and restart requirements, including containers that need rebuilding. An older base version may contain a backported fix, so the full package revision and vendor record matter more than a banner.
Access Controls and Server Hardening
An agreed scope can cover administrative authentication, service accounts, firewall rules and filesystem permissions. Changes follow least privilege while retaining a reliable recovery path. We test authorized deployment and support access before closing old routes, avoiding accidental lockouts or broken background tasks.
Monitoring and Backup Recommendations
Useful monitoring needs owners, actionable alerts and a response process. Backups should be protected from the same credentials that can alter production and tested through restoration. We specify practical recommendations for retention, access and review rather than assuming that a successful backup job guarantees recoverability.
Server Security Assessment
Tell us your host, operating system if known and whether you control a virtual server, container or shared account. Authorized administrative access may be needed for deeper checks. The resulting plan identifies verified configuration issues, proposed changes, service dependencies and tasks that remain with the infrastructure provider.
What you receive
- Server responsibility and software inventory
- Scoped hardening and patch recommendations
- Backup, monitoring and recovery review
Questions about web server security
Can you harden shared hosting?
Only within the permissions the provider exposes. Server-level changes and patch evidence may require the host’s cooperation.
Does a firewall make updates optional?
No. Network controls can reduce exposure, but vulnerable runtime and operating system packages still need appropriate fixes.
