Answers, in one place

Common questions about the things we build and manage. If you are planning a new project, begin with our web development services, scopes and published pricing, then use the topics below for practical detail.

Topic 1 of 8

Web Development

Building, launching and editing your website.

How long does a website project take?

A Starter site is usually two to three weeks, a Business site three to five, and an online store four to eight. The largest variable is content: if your text and images are ready when we start, the project runs to the shorter end of that range.

Can I edit the website myself after launch?

Yes. Content management is set up as part of every build and walked through at handover. Editing text, swapping an image or adding a page is something your own team can do without a developer. Structural or design changes are where you would come back to us.

What should I avoid changing myself?

Three things break sites more often than anything else: uploading very large images without resizing, pasting formatted text straight from Word rather than as plain text, and deleting a page other pages link to. None are reasons to avoid editing your site, just worth knowing.

Who owns the website when it is finished?

You do. The site, the domain and the content are yours, and if you later move to another provider we hand over the files and the database. Ownership is confirmed at handover rather than assumed.

What happens if something breaks after launch?

There is a support window after go-live for exactly this. Contact us directly and we pick it up. Beyond that window, managed hosting covers ongoing fixes and changes.

Topic 2 of 8

E-commerce

Running an online store, orders and payments.

How do M-Pesa payments reach my store?

The customer chooses M-Pesa at checkout and enters their number, a prompt appears on their phone, and once Safaricom confirms the payment the order is marked paid automatically. There is no screenshot to check and no manual reconciliation.

What happens if a payment fails or times out?

The order is not marked paid and stock is not reduced. Failure paths are built and tested before launch, so a customer is never charged without an order being created, and an order never sits in limbo waiting for someone to notice.

How do I add or update products?

Through the store admin, which you are trained on at handover. Adding a product, adjusting a price, changing stock or marking something out of stock are all day-to-day tasks your team runs without us.

My stock count is wrong. What now?

Stock is reduced when an order is paid, so a mismatch usually means stock was changed outside the system, or an order was cancelled without being restocked. Check recent cancellations first. If the numbers still do not reconcile, contact us and we will trace it.

Can I sell outside Kenya?

Yes. Card checkout covers customers paying from abroad, and delivery areas and rates are configured to whatever regions you actually ship to.

Managed Hosting

What we do to keep your site online.

What does managed hosting actually cover?

We manage the hosting environment your website runs on: keeping it online, monitoring it, applying updates and security patches, running backups with restores tested rather than assumed, and handling changes when you ask. You are paying for that work, not for a slice of a server.

Do I get a control panel to log into?

No, and that is deliberate. Managed hosting means we do the work. If you want something changed, you tell us and it is done, rather than being handed an interface and left to it.

My website is down. What should I do?

Contact us straight away by phone. In most cases monitoring has already alerted us and work is underway before anyone reports it, but tell us anyway rather than assuming we know.

How often are backups taken?

Backups run on a schedule appropriate to how often your site changes, and restores are tested rather than assumed to work. An untested backup is a hope, not a plan.

Can you host a site you did not build?

Yes. We review how it is currently built and hosted first, then migrate it. Most migrations happen with no downtime.

Topic 4 of 8

Domain Management

Keeping your domain active and correctly configured.

What does domain management include?

We track your renewal dates and handle them well before expiry, manage the DNS records for your website and email, monitor expiry and configuration year round, and review annually that the domain is registered to you.

Do I still own my domain?

Yes. Managing a domain is not the same as owning it. The domain stays registered to your business throughout, and confirming that is part of the annual review.

Can my domain still expire?

That is the problem the service exists to prevent. Renewals are handled ahead of the date rather than depending on a reminder reaching an inbox someone no longer checks.

I need a DNS record changed. How?

Tell us what you need pointed where and we make the change. DNS mistakes take websites and email offline, so this is one of the things worth having handled rather than doing yourself at speed.

Can you take over a domain registered by someone else?

Usually yes. We start by establishing who currently holds it and when it expires, which is a check worth doing regardless. Where a former developer is unreachable it can be harder, and we will tell you honestly what is possible.

Topic 5 of 8

Professional Email

Business email on your own domain.

Why does our email go to spam?

Almost always missing or incorrect mail records. Receiving servers use SPF, DKIM and DMARC to decide whether your mail is genuine, and without them your messages look suspicious regardless of what they say. Setting these up correctly is part of the service.

How do I set up email on my phone?

We connect devices as part of setup. If you get a new phone later, contact us with the device and we will send the settings or walk you through it.

Someone has left the company. What happens to their mailbox?

Tell us and we handle it: the account secured, forwarded to whoever is taking over, or closed. This is part of ongoing management rather than a separate job.

Can we add more mailboxes later?

Yes. Starter covers up to 5 accounts and Business up to 20. If you outgrow your plan we move you up, and beyond 20 accounts it is quoted to your team size.

Can you move our existing email across?

Yes, migration is part of the Business package. Existing mail is moved and checked so nothing is lost in the move.

Topic 6 of 8

SEO and Search

Being found, and what that realistically takes.

Will my new website show up on Google?

Every site we build ships with the technical groundwork: proper structure, fast loading, correct indexing and mobile handling. That gets you found for your own business name, usually within days. Competing for contested search terms is ongoing work.

How long does SEO take to work?

Three to six months for meaningful movement. Anyone promising page one in weeks is either misunderstanding how search works or counting on you not to check.

Can you guarantee a ranking?

No, and neither can anyone else honestly. What we commit to is the work and the reporting on what it moves.

Why did my traffic drop?

Common causes are a search engine update, a technical change on the site, or a competitor improving. Tell us and we will look rather than guess: the answer is usually visible in the data.

Is local search worth it?

For most Kenyan businesses, yes, and it is usually the better opportunity. Being found by people nearby searching for what you do beats competing nationally for a generic term, and it is achievable far sooner.

Topic 7 of 8

AI Services

What AI can and cannot do for your business.

Where does AI actually help?

Most often in handling repetitive work, answering common questions from your own content, processing documents at volume, and qualifying enquiries. It helps least where judgement, accountability or unusual cases dominate.

Will an AI system make things up?

It can, which is why the systems we build answer from your own content rather than the open internet, with boundaries set so they decline when they do not know. Accuracy is monitored after launch rather than assumed at it.

Do we need our data organised before starting?

No. Reviewing what you have and what state it is in is part of the work, and most businesses are surprised in both directions.

What does AI cost to run?

AI has a per-use running cost as well as a build cost. We model it before building rather than letting you discover it on the first invoice.

What if AI is not the right answer?

Then we say so. That is a legitimate outcome of an assessment and a much cheaper one than finding out after a build.

Topic 8 of 8

Working With Us

Projects, payments and getting hold of us.

How do payments work?

Projects are staged: a deposit to begin and the balance at agreed points as work is delivered. The schedule is set out in writing before anything starts. Yearly services such as hosting, domains and email are billed separately from project work.

How do I reach you?

Phone or email us directly on the details on our contact page. There is no ticket system to navigate: if we manage your site, you contact us and we pick it up.

What are your prices?

Web development starts at KSh 30,000, managed hosting at KSh 24,000 a year, domain management at KSh 6,000 a year per domain, business email at KSh 12,000 a year and SEO at KSh 20,000 a month. Software, apps and AI are quoted per project after scoping.

Can you take over a project someone else started?

Often yes. We review what exists first and tell you honestly whether continuing or rebuilding is the better value, which is not always the answer that suits us.

What happens at handover?

You get access to the site and its content management, a walkthrough of how to run it, the documentation, and confirmation that the domain is registered to you. You do the steps yourself while we are there, because reading about it and doing it are different things.
