How Much Does a Custom Website Cost in Kenya?
It is the first question almost every client asks, and the one most agencies refuse to answer until they have you on a call. We publish our prices instead, because a business trying to plan a budget should not have to book a meeting to find out whether it can afford to start.
Our web development packages
Three fixed packages cover the large majority of website projects. The web development services page compares who each package suits, client inputs, timelines and the next step:
- Starter: KSh 30,000. A straightforward website of up to five pages that establishes your business online: a mobile-first responsive build, a contact form with enquiries routed to you, and basic search setup.
- Business: KSh 60,000. A fuller site for a business that needs to explain more and convert better. Everything in Starter, plus an expanded page structure, content management you can run yourself, and performance and SEO groundwork.
- E-commerce: KSh 90,000. A complete online store. Everything in Business, plus a product catalogue with stock, M-Pesa and card checkout, and order and delivery handling.
Software, systems and AI projects are quoted individually after a scoping call. We do not publish a price for those because the scope genuinely varies from one project to the next, and a number invented to look competitive helps nobody.
What actually moves the price
Within web development, three things drive cost more than anything else.
The number of distinct page templates, not the number of pages. Forty product pages built from one template is far less work than six pages that each need their own layout.
Whether the site has to do something, as opposed to say something. A brochure site displays information. A booking system, a member area or a store has logic behind it that has to be built, tested and maintained.
Whether your content is ready. This is the one clients consistently underestimate. If your text, images and product data exist when we start, the project runs to the shorter end of its estimate. If they do not, the build waits, and waiting costs.
What is not an extra
Some things routinely appear as line items elsewhere and are simply part of what we deliver: a responsive build tested on real phones, the technical SEO groundwork, content management set up and explained at handover, and M-Pesa checkout on the E-commerce package. A website that does not work properly on a phone or cannot be found in a search is not finished, so we do not price those separately.
What you pay for afterwards
The build is a one-off cost. Running the site is ongoing, and we keep those separate so you can see what you are committing to:
- Managed hosting from KSh 24,000 per year, where we keep the site online, monitor it and handle changes.
- Domain management at KSh 6,000 per year per domain, so renewals are handled and the domain cannot lapse.
- Professional email from KSh 12,000 per year for up to five accounts.
- SEO from KSh 20,000 per month, if you want to compete for contested search terms rather than just be findable.
None of these are compulsory. You can take the website and run it yourself.
Paying for it
Projects are staged. There is a deposit to begin and the balance at agreed points as work is delivered, set out in writing before anything starts. You are not asked for the full amount upfront.
How to budget
Pick the package that matches what the site has to do, then add a year of the running costs you actually need. A small business getting online properly is usually looking at the Starter or Business package plus managed hosting and domain management. If you are selling online, start from E-commerce.
If your project does not fit the three packages, we will tell you that before you commit rather than after.
